Child’s Age:
6 Gender: Female
Special care needs? Yes. We have been blessed with three young children ages 6 and under. Currently we are in search of someone to become a family friend and respite care provider for our 6 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. She is very active when out and about, playing and learning new things. Usually there is no sitting down, so you must be ready to go-go-go. Indoors she enjoys drawing, watching movies and playing along with you. Sometimes play means doing the same thing for 20 minutes straight, and other times it means doing an activity for 1 minute. Our daughter understands things spoken to her but only responds at approximately a 3 year old level. You must be strong physically as sometimes she needs redirection or in safety situations. Light assistance is needed going to the bathroom or changing clothes if needed. Are you able to come for a few hours after school, watch her to allow a date night, or maybe take local trips with the family and provide an extra hand? Think you can handle this and more? We are willing to pay more if you will watch one or both other siblings a few times per month once a relationship has been established. Our family lives between Marshall and Deerfield so the provider would need their own transportation to get to our home. If you have a lot of patience (it’s a must), abundant energy and have a zest for life, we would like to get to know you.
Range of hours/week: 10 hrs per week. Hours would be afterschool.
Wage range: $12.50, additional if watching sibling(s)
